AWeurope Interview with Renz Gonzales, Business Development Manager of PropellerAds
Push Traffic Versus Pop Traffic
- Phil:
- ποΈ I’m here with Renz Gonzales of PropellerAds. Hey, pleasure meeting you. It’s amazing having you here. You’ve just been onstage.
- Renz:
- Yup, about a couple of minutes ago. I talked about push traffic in general, some of the top features that are really, really hot right now and advertisers are using to maximise their campaigns’ performances. I was talking about trends.
- Phil:
- ποΈ That’s cool. One thing I’ve heard is that – listen up – push traffic is the new pop. Is that true?
So how does it compare? Push traffic and pop traffic. What are the biggest differences that you see and how big are those in terms of volume of traffic for you?
- Renz:
- As I said, pop, we’re huge. We work with all direct publishers, websites. Pop has been good, it will always be like good in terms of conversions, in terms of the quality, but with push traffic – as you said it, push traffic is huge right now. 2018 was amazing and we believe that the sky is the limit.
- Phil:
- ποΈ So what’s the trend then? Is it still a very new traffic source?
- Renz:
- Yup.
- Phil:
- ποΈ And quite a lot of affiliates jumped on that right now. So it continues to grow but also we see a lot of changes from Google’s side, maybe regulations and so forth on the horizon. Share some of the biggest trends with us.
- Renz:
- I’m going to talk about what you just mentioned, regulations. There are always going to be regulations, they’re not going to stop but what I want to focus on here is that based on pop under, just plain pop under has been in the industry for so long and a lot of people were saying it’s going to die eventually, and it’s still alive and kicking.
In terms of push traffic notifications, it’s huge. Regulations are there to keep and maintain everybody to really comply into them, and yeah. I think that regulations will just make PropellerAds’ push traffic notifications better and better for us.
Getting Started With Push Traffic
- Phil:
- ποΈ If somebody wants to get started with push traffic, apart from coming to you guys — yeah, I know that.
- Renz:
- Well they should.
- Phil:
- ποΈ Aside from Propeller, what else should they do?
- Renz:
- In terms of push traffic, well it depends. If you’re an affiliate and you just started in the market, know your stuff. Know exactly what you’re getting into. Research, conferences are good, you get to meet a lot people and get a lot of necessary information.
But how do they actually start, so start slow, start with stuff that are easy for you. Let’s say maybe some CPI offers. Yeah, start gradually working your way back up and just start slow. Learn the industry.
- Phil:
- ποΈ So you think CPI, app installs, is the best to start with?
- Renz:
- It’s easy. If we’re talking about pure, clean, app installs, it’s a good way to start but there are other verticals that affiliates and media buyers, if they’re new in the industry, can utilise and play around with.
- Phil:
- ποΈ Alright, what do you support affiliates with? Obviously you have traffic, you have the offers.
- Renz:
- Yes we do. Well we have huge traffic volumes when it comes to push traffic notifications worldwide. We’re talking about an ad format that is just no bot interference, so that’s one of the great advantages of it.
Running Traffic With PropellerAds
- Phil:
- ποΈ What affiliates can expect from you, from PropellerAds, the company if they want to run traffic with you?
- Renz:
- Volume. Huge, huge volumes and of course as I said, we are working with only direct sources. Direct websites. So that means we control the quality, if somebody is really bad or shady we’re not into that. We’re big in the game, we want to continue to be a big source in the industry.
- Phil:
- ποΈ So what about the technicalities of running push traffic? I’m a Facebook guy, so I’m used to having a billion options on how to target. This is different for push traffic. So what are the targeting options that you have for push traffic and how do you utilise them in the best way?
- Renz:
- So, you as an advertiser, you have a specific offer. Let’s say a dating offer. There are a number of features, targeting features that you can utilise on our platform. Multibanners, I’ve just talked about those, multibanners, you can launch a campaign with up to eight creative sets. Like A/B test. Frequency capping, make sure that you’re not bombarding users with ads. That’s one crucial thing.
A lot of advertisers, they think that, “Oh I’m going to show an ad to a user seven times today”, it doesn’t really necessarily mean a conversion later on but we’ve got to keep everything in the low and just try to convert users.
A lot of other features target CPA goal and push traffic notifications, we’ve got that. Also the user targeting, the user activity targeting that I mentioned, actually, PropellerAds is the only ad network at the moment with this feature. Imagine having three categories separated in terms of high user activity means, fresh users, medium-selective users but quite high-converting, and low where the traffic is huge but it just needs a little bit of tweaking here and there when it comes to —
- Phil:
- ποΈ But it’s cheaper, I assume.
- Renz:
- Absolutely.
Renz’ Number One Tip
- Phil:
- ποΈ Okay that’s cool. Your number one tip?
- Renz:
- Number one tip? Don’t quit. We tend to hear that tons and tons of times. Like, “Hey Renz I’m not getting anything, this offer is not converting for me.” Well, let’s talk about it, what’s the problem? What are the things that you tried so far that didn’t work and let’s try a different approach.
- Phil:
- ποΈ So you’re actually consulting people as well and helping them get on track.
- Renz:
- Absolutely. I mean, this is one of the main objectives of PropellerAds. It’s not just about providing traffic, it’s also about providing all the necessary information for them to succeed. We are aiming for long-term partnerships and that’s what made us what we are today, really.
- Phil:
- ποΈ Alright, well then, if you want to run push traffic, then definitely hit up Renz, hit up PropellerAds.
